Bitcoin Developer Peter Todd’s Snarky Reply Turns Into Viral Meme Coin

Bitcoin developer Peter Todd’s snarky reply to an X user’s post asking about the names of his pets has sparked the Creation of a viral meme coin that has surged more than 130% in the last 24 hours. While Todd has recently been claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, by an HBO documentary, he has denied these claims.

Creating Memes with Meme Coins

Contrary to the claims in the HBO documentary, Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd has brushed off suggestions that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. However, this denial did not deter Crypto enthusiasts from creating meme coins based on him.

The meme Token known as $YOURMOM, inspired by Todd’s response to an X user, has experienced a remarkable Surge of over 4000%, as reported by Data on GeckoTerminal. This Solana-powered token is currently trading at $0.002647 with a Market cap of $2.4 million, mere hours after its launch on Oct. 9.

The creation of the $YOURMOM token originated from an X user’s statement to Todd, which led to a discussion about his pets. Todd humorously replied with the name "your mom," igniting the meme token trend further. As of now, there have been four Solana tokens created in the past 16 hours with the ticker YourMom, some of which feature Todd’s image as the coin’s icon.

Capitalizing on Meme Coin Trends

In a similar vein, meme coin creators on the Solana network wasted no time in developing tokens related to Len Sassaman and his two cats, Odin and Sasha. Sassaman was a top contender among Polymarket bettors as Satoshi Nakamoto.

After the HBO documentary named Peter Todd as Satoshi instead of Sassaman, prices for memecoins associated with the cryptographer saw a significant drop. Tokens such as SASHA and Odin experienced declines of over 88% and 90%, respectively, in the hours following the documentary’s release.

The HBO Documentary Unveils Allegations

On Oct. 8, HBO’s documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” made the claim that Peter Todd is indeed Satoshi Nakamoto, based on various cryptic online posts. One post in which Todd referred to himself as “the world’s leading expert on how to sacrifice your Bitcoins” was interpreted as a subtle confession regarding the destruction of access to Nakamoto’s supposed 1.1 million BTC.

The documentary added fuel to the fire by alleging that Todd accidentally posted from Satoshi’s account on the BitcoinTalk forum back in 2010. However, despite these claims, Todd has consistently denied any association with the creation of Bitcoin.

Even before the documentary aired, Todd made it clear that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto. In response to a comment on X urging him to refute HBO’s claim, Todd unequivocally stated, “I am not Satoshi.”

As the meme coin craze continues to grow in the Crypto world, Peter Todd’s sarcastic reply has led to the birth of the $YOURMOM token and a series of other meme coins. Whether these tokens will maintain their momentum or face a similar fate as those associated with Len Sassaman remains to be seen.
